Charlie Sloth moves to Apple Music
In one of the biggest DJ moves in recent history, Charlie Sloth recently left BBC Radio 1 and his popular late night shows in order to join up with Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio Station.
The brand new show, named The Charlie Sloth Rap Show, will air on Saturday nights in the UK. This is a monumental step for Apple Music, as they continue to make giant strides in taking over the radio industry. Sloth has been quoted as saying that UK music “is in a place that it’s never been” during his career. This move is the next step in attempting to go global with the Beats 1 brand and took advantage of Sloth seeking a new challenge.
The Apple Music takeover has really stepped up a gear in recent times with Sloth joining Zane Lowe, Ryan Newman and George Ergatoudis in making the switch from major roles within Radio 1/1xtra to Apple Music, which clearly signals big intentions.
Another important thing to mention is Sloth bringing his popular Fire in the Booth segment to Apple Music, which allows him to hit the ground running on the new show. This was a major hit to the BBC that couldn’t be avoided as Sloth owns the rights and currently only licenses it back to the BBC.
