LMSUKmedia Top Picks: What we’re listening to – Week 1

Ariana Grande- 7 rings

We start our new feature with new pop princess Ariana Grande, an artist clearly at the top of her game. With multiple singles from her latest album, “thank you, next”, dominating the charts we thought it felt right to delve into her latest number one. The lyrics of this track focus on themes of money, wealth and friendship. Ariana begins the track by singing about some of her favourite things that corresponds with the 1959 show tune’ My Favourite Things’. The tracks title ‘7 Rings’ is a reference to that fact that Ariana and 6 of her friends got matching diamond friendship rings.

Lewis Capaldi- Someone You Loved

“Someone You Loved” is a piano-centered ballad that echos the most beautiful conviction of losing in love. The song that has pushed Lewis Capaldi even further into the spotlight with his first ever top 5 single and it’s clear that Capaldi will be reaching even further heights in the future. The emotion he places into the track is phenomenal and the video that accompanied the track featuring Peter Capaldi is similarly magical. Looking forward to the recently announced debut album from the comedic Scotsman.

Deco- Don’t Waste Your Time

Feelgood pop band Deco are back with their brand new single ‘Don’t Waste Your Time’. The track was officially released on 1st February and is the second single from their forthcoming EP, Upside Down. The hook-filled track paints the self motivating picture of the bands leap into pursuing music full time and departing part time jobs in 2018. This band is one to watch ahead of an already busy 2019 which will include supporting Kovic and another headline UK tour.

Only Shadows- At the Door Knocking

Having just come off their biggest headline tour to date, selling out venues across the country in the process, and wracking up over two million steams across all platforms. Only Shadows are back with their brilliant new single ‘At the Door Knocking’ the first taken from their forthcoming debut album. The Midlands quartet are back out on the road in 2019 taking in a bigger run of headline dates as well as festival appearances on the horizon. 2019 is set to be a big year for the band, with ‘At the Door Knocking’ a massive sounding indication of what’s in store.
